Black Women are definitely winning! Here are a few ways how we are on Top, and will only keep going up... 

1. Black Women are #1 of entrepreneurs.

      Businesses owned by black women has grown 40% with 18 years causing us to be the fastest growing group of entrepreneurs. According to Black Enterprise, 30% of all U.S.  businesses are owned by black women. 

2.  Black Women are most educated in the U.S. 

      According to Daily Caller, black women earned 68% of all associate degrees, 66% of bachelor's degrees, 71% of master degrees and lastly 65% of all doctorates degrees.   

3. Black Women are living longer and healthier.

      Before the 60's, black women were living until around the age of 68 years old. Studies show that we are now living to the age of 80 and even longer. This is because we have become aware of how important it is to live a healthy lifestyle which includes healthy food, exercising, & eliminating stress.

As black women we must continue to thrive in America and support each other, we are excelling in every aspect of life and we can and will continue to further increase our numbers by being successful and also educating the younger generations on what they can be. To my black mothers, grandmothers, sisters, daughters please continue to be great in everything you are doing and remember there is no limit to your goals and success.  

Diversity in Tech

"Tech companies are experiencing growing pressure to diversify their workforce which is predominantly white, Asian, and male. The increased public scrutiny has resulted in some larger tech companies disclosing their employee information, which indicates little progress. A recent survey of the top 9 tech companies in Silicon Valley by Fortune reveals that on average, women comprise about one-third of the workforce. That gap expands the higher up you go in an organization, with the best company showing women holding 29% of leadership jobs. In general, companies made slightly better progress on ethnic diversity than they did on increasing their percentages of female employees, although not in leadership roles"(Marcus).

"We can attempt to solve the problem by educating more women and minorities and challenging hiring practices which are all important initiatives, but the underlying issue that must be addressed to solve this problem is the hidden and often overt discrimination that prevails in the tech industry.

The reality is that gender and racial bias is so ubiquitous in the technology industry that it forces talented female and minority employees to leave. Companies can hire more minorities and women but without addressing this critical issue, they will not experience improvement in diversity"(Marcus).

Pearl to be Honored at State Capitol

A Lady Named Pearl will be honored on Haitian Day at the State Capitol for her contributions to the State of GA.

Esther Role

Many of you may know Esther Rolle form the 1970's sitcom Good Times  her character was Florida Evans. What people do not know about Esther is her education before she became an actor. Esther was a student at several colleges. She attended Spelman College in Atlanta,GA, Hunter College in New York, The New School in New York, and Yale University in Connecticut. She was the first woman to receive Chairmen's Civil Rights Leadership Award for raising the images of African Americans from the NAACP. Also, known for her present on stage and screen as well as an social activist. When Mrs. Rolle died she left estate value of $1.7 million several treasuries,shares, and funds.

TECH OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN & MINORITIES

"While the tech jobs’ boom may be benefitting college-educated blacks and Hispanics, according to new findings from the Progressive Policy Institute (PPI), “progress remains slow for women even though they represent 47 percent of the workforce,” said Federal Communications Commissioner Mignon Clyburn. “It’s safe to say that women, regardless of their credentials, still face all sorts of barriers,” Clyburn noted in remarks at a joint event (link is external) last week hosted by PPI and the Georgetown Center for Business and Public Policy highlighting an April PPI report detailing tech opportunities for women and minorities. Clyburn said more needs to be done to bridge the gender gap highlighted in the report, “Tech Opportunity for Minorities and Women: A Good News, Bad News Story"(USTelecom).

A Lady Named Pearl Cleanse

I am a model, performing artist and professor, based in Atlanta, GA. I was born and raised in Miami, FL by two beautiful Haitian parents. I can recall walking through our neighborhood with my Mom, and her picking certain plants to boil, to create medicines for us. Moreover, we had a mango, avocado and lemon tree. Exercise at least three times a week. Exercise is key to a healthy lifestyle.

I can recall being a young girl and looking over to my sister and saying "I wonder what's out there," as I gazed up at the stars. Her replied " Girl, what are you talking about?"

Sometimes people don't have your curiosity or your vision.

Although my sister was not on board, with an intuition to see beyond the stars, I was.

We have all been given a mission and its important for us to uncover it, while we are on this journey called life.

She has no limits, she has no bounds.
Often times, we can get in our own way of reaching our mission based on the perception of what others think is possible.

We must have the self-confidence, that the universe placed in us, all we need to reach our goals.

Of course, its okay to listen to others, but at the end of the day, go with your gut feeling. You are the captain of your ship, you are the writer of your script. 

Do you think Nikola Tesla or Albert Einstein would have achieve what they achieved, if they listened to limitations of others? They listen to the voice within.

"CodeStart is a year long, residence based, full-time immersive coding, entrepreneurship, career readiness and financial literacy training program created by TechSquare Labs, The Iron Yard and The Atlanta Workforce Development Agency and Gifted Education Foundation. The program is designed for disconnected youth, ages 18-24, that demonstrate barriers to opportunity and employment.

Over the 13 month period, the students commit to a 12 week full-time, immersive coding bootcamp in which they learn to code. After successful completion, they receive career readiness, culture fit and financial literacy training. At that point, we work with the students to gain employment as a junior entry level computer programmer/developer/engineer in the form of a paid internship, apprenticeship or job. Once placed, the students participate in a part-time entrepreneurial pre-accelerator program for the remainder of the program which includes a demo day. At the end, we aim to create a new software programmer and a technical cofounder of a high growth startup"(AtlantaTech).

Fashion Week 2016-2017

      Is anyone else ready for this winter weather to finally be gone and ready for the spring sunshine that’s slowly approaching? While we all are waiting for the temperature to rise, at least we have a little time to prepare our wardrobe. Us fashionistas must keep up to date with the season trends. Elle magazine posted an article on the 2017 spring top fashion trends for fashion week. Strips, Khaki, Shades of Yellow, Cut Out Shoulders are some described in the article.
